An electric pressure washer is the machine for anywhere a gas engine cannot go: a detail shop, a car wash prep bay, a dealership, a kitchen, a food plant, a rental fleet garage. No exhaust, no fuel, a switch instead of a pull cord, and far less noise. The 185 electric units here run from 1,000 to 7,000 PSI and 1.3 to 8 gallons per minute: 101 portable machines on wheels, 49 wall mount units and 35 stationary machines, 133 cold water and 52 hot water. They come from Cam Spray, BE Power Equipment, Pressure-Pro, Kranzle and Simpson, sold new from the manufacturer through High Pressure Car Washer, an authorized dealer for all of them. Shipping is free to the lower 48 states, to a dock or terminal on freight machines, and liftgate service is one flat fee.

The circuit picks the machine. Forty nine units run on a standard 120 volt outlet, which covers detailing and light shop work to about 2,000 PSI. Ninety three run on 230 volt or 208 volt single phase, the class most shops and bays use for 3,000 PSI at 4 GPM. Forty three run on three phase power, the stationary and industrial machines to 7,000 PSI. Every product page states the voltage and phase, and the comparison table below shows it beside PSI and GPM. Hot water electric units, all electric machines with a diesel, natural gas or propane fired burner, also appear in hot water pressure washers; if the job is outdoors with no outlet, look at gas pressure washers.

120 volt, 230 volt or three phase

A 120 volt electric pressure washer plugs into a standard outlet on a 15 or 20 amp circuit and tops out around 2,000 PSI at 2 GPM, which is exactly the band detailers want on paint. A 230 volt single phase unit needs a dryer style circuit and delivers the 3,000 PSI 4 GPM class that shops, bays and light industry run on a 5 to 7.5 HP motor. Three phase power, 208, 230 or 460 volt, runs the 10 HP and larger motors on stationary machines, industrial units to 7,000 PSI and the biggest electric hot water machines. Buy the machine for the circuit you have; a 230 volt circuit is a small electrical job and opens up most of this page.

Commercial electric pressure washers

The commercial class starts at a triplex plunger pump and an industrial motor from Baldor, Leeson or WEG, and runs from the 1,500 PSI Cam Spray and Pressure-Pro portables to the 7,000 PSI Pressure-Pro Pro Max. What you pay for over a consumer electric unit is a pump that runs hours a day and can be rebuilt, and a motor with a service factor for continuous duty. Electric hot water pressure washers

52 of these machines heat the water. Most carry a diesel fired burner, which needs a vented space indoors; ten burn natural gas and eight burn propane, the units built for kitchens, dairies and plants with a gas line. An electric hot water unit is the answer for a detail bay that does engines and wheels, a food plant that sanitizes, or any indoor job with grease. All of them also appear in hot water pressure washers.

Electric pressure washers in the 3,000 PSI class

3,000 PSI at 3.5 to 4 GPM on 230 volt single phase is the machine most shops end up with: enough pressure for floors, equipment and vehicles, enough flow to rinse, and a motor that runs on a common circuit. Wall mount electric pressure washers

41 wall mount units, most of them Cam Spray, put the pump and motor on the wall of a bay with the hose on a reel, so the floor stays clear, nothing gets run over, and the water and power connections are made once. A wash bay, a dealership prep area or a rental return lane is a wall mount job. Stationary base mount units do the same on a pad or a shelf.

Electric pressure washers for cars, detailing and home use

Paint wants pressure under 2,500 PSI, a wide fan tip and 2 to 3 GPM, and it wants a machine that starts every time and does not fog the bay. Liftgate service, $95 flat. No dock or forklift? Choose liftgate service when you add the machine to the cart. The carrier calls ahead to schedule, brings the crate to your address and lowers it to the ground with a liftgate. It lands at the curb or driveway, not inside the building. One flat fee per order, whatever the machine weighs.

On delivery. Inspect the crate before signing. Note any damage on the delivery receipt and photograph it. We file the claim with the carrier, and if a replacement is needed we ship it.

Returns. Unused machines in original packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery. A 20 percent restocking fee applies and return freight is the buyer's responsibility, and a refused freight delivery is handled the same way, which is why we would rather confirm the model before it ships: send the job, the water and the power on site through the form on this page and we check the spec against the machine. Electric Pressure Washers questions, answered

Can an electric pressure washer run on a standard household outlet?
Yes, the 120 volt units can, up to about 2,000 PSI and 2 GPM on a 15 or 20 amp circuit. Anything stronger needs 230 volt single phase, and stationary machines from about 7.5 HP up need three phase. Every product page states the voltage, phase and amperage.
Are electric pressure washers as strong as gas?
On the right circuit, yes. A 230 volt single phase unit reaches 3,000 to 4,000 PSI at 4 GPM, and three phase units reach 7,000 PSI. What electric cannot do is run away from an outlet, which is where gas takes over.
Can an electric pressure washer heat water?
Yes. 52 units here carry a burner, most diesel fired and some natural gas or propane, and heat the water to 180 to 250 degrees. Diesel burners need a vented bay indoors; natural gas and propane units connect to a gas line and suit kitchens and plants.
What is the best electric pressure washer for car detailing?
Under 2,500 PSI with 2 to 3 GPM and a wide fan tip. On a standard outlet, the Kranzle K1622TS or K2020T. With a 230 volt circuit, the Kranzle K2160TST or a BE 2,000 PSI 3.5 GPM unit for more flow.
Wall mount or portable?
Wall mount if the machine has a home: a bay, a prep lane, a plant. The floor stays clear and the connections are permanent. Portable if it moves between bays or job sites in the building.
Do electric pressure washers need a special plug?
120 volt units use a standard three prong plug with a GFCI. 230 volt units use a NEMA 6 series plug or are hard wired, and three phase units are hard wired by an electrician. The product page lists the plug or the wiring for each machine.
How long is the cord and can I use an extension cord?
Cords run 25 to 35 feet on most units. Extension cords on a pressure washer cause voltage drop and motor damage, so the right answer is a longer high pressure hose, not a longer cord. Hoses to 100 feet are in the accessories collections.
How does shipping work on a pressure washer?
Shipping is free to the lower 48 states. Machines ship new from the manufacturer by freight carrier to a commercial address with a dock or forklift, or to the carrier's nearest terminal for pickup.
